The Peak Performance Project – a partnership with Peak 100.5 FM radio and Music B.C. –  has announced its 20 finalists for its fourth extensive talent trawl. These will go to a boot camp in Princeton, where they will have a week of intensive learning about writing, recording and the music business. They will showcase at the Red Room starting each week in September, which will pare them down to five finalists who will vie for prize money and other boosts. Three will be at the finale at the Commodore, November 22.

The 20 are: Alexandria Maillot, Ali Milner, Beekeeper, Dear Rouge, Domenique Fricot, Facts, Fields Of Green, Georgia Murray, Headwater, Jordan Klassen, Maurice, Mike Edel, Portgage And Main, Redhy Blackout, T. Nile, Tequila Mockingbird Orchestra, The Fugitives, TheGay Nineties, The Harpoonist And The Axe Murderer, The River And The Road. An interesting list with some acts better known than others and many of them sporting good self-releases.

Not to be outshone, Shore 104.3 FM has a new series. Each month, the station  will name its Best Of B.C. and award the act $10,000 as well as provide airplay. The winner for June is Simpson Brothers Band, whose current single is “Diamonds.” For more info, www.shore104.com.
